Activity Committee

Volunteers are needed to hostess various events at the Senior Center. Newcomers are welcome to join us to discuss current and upcoming events, and volunteer to assist staff with calling bingo and/or helping with games and events.
Adult Outings and Tours
Register Online
A variety of day trips and extended trips are available throughout the year, including airfare group vacations with a travel guide. Flyers and itinerary are available at Blaine City Hall and at the Mary Ann Young Senior Center. Stop by either site for more information or register online for day trips. Current trips are also posted in the Senior Center Newsletter and Blaine Recreation Connection Activities Catalog.
Computer 1:1 Help
1st Wednesday, 10AM - Noon, by 1/2 Hour Appointment
Anoka County Library staff will be available by appointment at the Senior Center. Call for a half hour appointment and state the type of device you need assistance with.
Defensive Driving Refresher Classes
Scheduled Thursdays, 10:30AM
Register 6-8 weeks in advance of your preferred month. Advanced payment is required two weeks in advance of the class date. Current AARP Members fee: $15, Non-AARP Members fee: $20. You must have taken the full 8-Hour class to be eligible to take the 4-hour refresher. Lunch is available for $4 for those age 60 or more, or a fee of $7 for those age 59 and under. Classes are good for 3 years, then must be repeated to continue to receive the car insurance discount.

Garden Club
2nd Monday, 6:30PM (Meet at 6PM to Carpool in summer)
Unless otherwise specified, during the summer months, tours are taken so participants can see other gardens. During the remainder of the year, meetings may include speakers, slide shows, dinners, etc. and are held at the Senior Center.
Ice Skating
Wednesdays, 9:30AM - 11PM, During the School Year
Adult Skate is available at Fogerty Arena, off Lincoln Street near the Senior Center. No registration needed.
Line Dancing
Daytime Classes (Advanced Beginner Level)
Tuesdays, 9 - 10AM
This is an advanced beginner level of dance held throughout the year, unless otherwise specified. A $1 donation is requested to cover cost of instruction and music supplies.
Evening and Weekend Classes (Varied Levels)
Wednesdays, 6 - 8PM and Saturdays, 9AM - Noon
Varied Levels, so talk to the instructor to see which class is the right fit for you. Generally, a monthly dance party is held the third Saturday of the month beginning at noon. Free will donations are encouraged for instruction.
Movie Day
Specified Thursdays Each Month, 1PM
A recent movie release will be shown on our 70-inch TV with overhead sound. Coffee, punch and popcorn are available at intermission. All for Free!
Novel Nook
Specified Friday, 11AM
Check out the selected book to read and join a group discussion at the Senior Center generally the fourth Friday of the month. Lead by a representative from the Anoka County Library.
Plastic Canvas and Craft Class
1st and 3rd Fridays, 10AM
Bring your own projects or get suggestions from the current attendees. Class is for all levels of abilities. Some supplies are available to get a beginner started.
Quilting Club
1st and Last Mondays, 2:30PM
Help make "comfort" quilts for those in need of a little T.L.C. Quilting group will meet the first and last Mondays of each month at 2:30PM. A variety of tasks are available, all levels of experience are welcome. Fabric donations such as cotton, flannel, denim jeans, and bed sheets are welcome throughout the year. Sing-a-Long
2nd Monday, 11:15AM
Join our music leader and fellow singers for a relaxing round of favorite/popular tunes.
Woodcarving Classes/Groups
Tuesdays, 7PM and Wednesdays 1 - 3PM
These are relaxed carving groups that is led by volunteer carvers. All levels of experience are welcome, from beginners to seasoned carvers. Tools and supplies to get started may be purchased during class time, but call the Senior Center in advance to be sure beginning supplies are available. There are no fees required to attend class or receive advice on projects.
Woodcarving Meeting
2nd Sunday, 2PM
The MN North Metro Woodcarvers' Association meets during the school year . Everyone is welcome to attend. Demonstrations are occasionally given. Planning for shows and events are often discussed.
