How to Submit a Permit Application and Required Information

  1. Permit and Plan Submittal Preferred Method

    Email the application and supporting paperwork requested to plans@blainemn.gov.

    Do not send a credit card authorization form, Building Inspections will contact you for payment method when the permit is approved.

Fee & Permit Process

  • The permit fee is based on valuation (see fee schedule).  Additional permits may be needed such as mechanical or plumbing.

  • When the permit is submitted a Damage Repair Walk-through Inspection will be setup with the contractor or homeowner.  During this inspection the Inspector may indicate if further information is required for the permit application.  (Engineering, plans, additional permits etc.)
  • Once your plans have been reviewed you will be contacted to come pickup and pay for your permit.
  • When your permit has been paid for and you have your approved plans you may start your work and schedule inspections.
  • When scheduling Inspections please plan 2 business days out.  During the busy construction time longer delays may occur. 

General Information

  • For temporary structural supports, structural replacement or repair performed in an emergency on an existing structure, the Building Department shall be notified within 72 hours and permit application for temporary work shall be submitted.  All work is subject to field inspections by the City Building Inspector.
  • Any Electrical work is done through the State Board of Electricity.
