The State of Minnesota Cold Weather Rule is designed to protect all Minnesotan's from having their heating service disconnected during the cold winter months. The protection begins in October and runs through April each year. Many utility providers will work with customers who are behind on their payments. Most providers will offer a payment plan options during the cold weather months to help customers. Those who qualify for energy assistance will pay no more than 10 percent of their monthly income on their heating bill. For more information contact your heating provider.
