For the eighth year in a row Heroes and Helpers, through many local donations, helped bring holiday joy to some local students who need it. We would like to thank Target, Blaine Festival, Alicia Marie Photography, and Ritz Photo Booth for their generosity in making a memorable holiday season for the students.
This year we had $7,000 to spend with 60 local students in need. Each child received $100 to spend on gifts for their families and $750 was set aside to help with essentials such as socks, underwear, hats, mittens, snow pants, and food. The Heroes and Helpers program purchases these items so the students can use their money to buy something special for their family members.
The participating students are selected by school social workers from seven different schools in the Anoka-Hennepin, Centennial, and Spring Lake Park School Districts. We want to especially thank officers from the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, Lino Lakes Police and Fire Department, Spring Lake Park-Blaine-Mounds View Fire Department, Centennial Lakes Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Blaine Police Department, Blaine Reserve Officers, and the Blaine Police Explorers for volunteering their time to take the students shopping. Thank you to all who make this such a great event for our community.
