Don't back your car into the garage

One thing I notice in the winter time is that some people back their cars in the garage when they come home.  The problem with that is carbon monoxide can seep into your home, especially if you warm your car in the garage before you leave. With homes closed up for the winter this can be an issue. Be sure to have at least one carbon monoxide detector on each level of your home.

Work at home scams

Have you seen the “work at home” ads where you can earn $3,500 a month just for re-shipping items? Read about it here: https://mn.gov/commerce/media/news/#/detail/appId/2/id/316291
Last year a resident of Coon Rapids contacted Coon Rapids PD about this very “job” she had.  It was a scam and it turned out to be items that were fraudulently purchased, shipped to her home and then sent to the suspects in another state.

Receive an unexpected check in the mail?

Have you received a check in the mail with no explanation? I’ve received two such checks (at work) and while they may look real, they’re both fake. Check out the info in this link: http://www.fakechecks.org/index2.html

Knowing your neighbood

If you had to report a crime occurring two or three houses down from you, would you know the address to give to the 9-1-1 dispatcher? Check out the city’s maps here: https://www.blainemn.gov/275/GIS
and print map of your area.
