HyVee Site Plan

Featured Development

On October 18, 2018, the Blaine City Council approved plans to allow for a Hy-Vee grocery store on the vacant 40-acre parcel located at the southwest corner of Jefferson St. and Main St. Blaine staff has been working with Hy-Vee for almost three years to get a store in Blaine. Hy-Vee chose this location because of its proximity to not only Blaine residents but also neighboring communities to the west and north. Hy-Vee is planning to construct an 85,000 square foot grocery store. The store will include a liquor store, restaurant and many of the other services that are available at their other locations.  There will also be a convenience store with car wash and Starbucks closer to Main Street. The project is a $30 million investment by Hy-Vee. Hy-Vee has provided concept plans that show potential senior housing and additional retail along Main St. that could be developed by others in the future.

As part of the project, Hy-Vee will be making safety and traffic improvements to the existing portion of Jefferson Street. Hy-Vee also has worked with Anoka-Hennepin Schools to reconfigure the parent drop-off/pick-up areas to prevent cars from queuing onto the public street. Connection of Jefferson St. to 121st Ave., which currently dead-ends in the Crescent Ponds neighborhood, will also be part of the project.  The road connection has been part of the city’s transportation plan since development of the Crescent Ponds neighborhood. The city will be working with the neighborhood and the traffic commission to implement traffic calming and other safety measures on 121st Ave. in a response to additional traffic.

Hy-Vee is planning on breaking ground this fall with completion sometime before the end of 2019.
