Tax Season Tips

Tax season is here. The IRS has safety tips to help prevent you from being scammed by someone alleging to be from the Internal Revenue Service.

The Internal Revenue Service will not call and tell you to pay your taxes using gift cards or iTunes cards. They will not come to your home and arrest you for taxes owed, despite what the caller may tell you. The call may sound like a robocall or from someone in a call center.

Check Fraud

Do you  write checks to pay bills or for goods? Consider using a gel ink type pen. The gel ink absorbs into the fibers of the check which means it can’t be altered and rewritten to another person for a higher dollar amount. We call this crime, forgery. Gel ink pens can be found at most stores.
