Daylight Savings Time

Still missing that hour of sleep? Daylight savings is a good reminder to change the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors? Having a working smoke alarm doubles your chance of surviving a fire. Smoke detectors don’t last forever. They typically expire after 8 – 10 years. If your alarm is older than ten years, it is time for a new one.

Social Security Card Safety

This past week officers received a report of a stolen wallet. Inside was the victim’s social security card. There is no reason to have this card in your wallet.

This number is the gateway to identity theft. If your wallet was stolen, would you be able to list everything that was in it? Do you have the credit card and bank toll free phone numbers to call to put a stop on them?

Consider photocopying the front and back of every card and keep it in a safe place in the event you need it. Do not snap a picture of them with your cell phone. If your phone is ever lost or stolen, that information is now considered vulnerable and could be sold on the dark web.
